π¨Construction begins on a historic site π°β¨ California Academy of Studio Arts (CASA) opens its doors this fall on the former San Francisco Art Institute campus! π This experimental educational institution, inspired by Black Mountain College, will offer up to 30 emerging artists a yearlong studio-based program. π¨
This free, unaccredited initiative aims to foster creativity, collaboration, and mentorship through studio space, workshops, and public engagement opportunities. π Directed by Laurene Powell Jobs, the founder of BMA-Institute who bought SFAI in 2023 after its 151-year run! π‘
CASA also includes listening forums led by Abbye Churchill and Hans Ulrich Obrist to gather feedback for their program. The restored campus features private studios, shared workshops across media, and communal spaces like cafes and bookstores π β.
The iconic Diego Rivera mural, “The Making of a Fresco,” will remain accessible as part of the project! Artistically and culturally significant, it’s a testament to the legacy being preserved. π
Whether you’re an artist or just curious, this is a must-see for creativity enthusiasts! π¨ #ArtEducation #CreativeCommunity #ExperimentalLearning #CASAOpening
